Lecturer in Curriculum and Instruction
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the School of Education at The City College of New York, CUNY invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position in The Graduate Program in Educational Theatre. This appointment will begin in Fall 2020. Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching theatre education at the graduate level as well as a commitment to the field of arts education as a whole. The successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate level courses in theatre education curriculum and lesson plan development; supervise and advise students; recruit new students and collaborate with faculty to increase enrollment; provide service to the program, department, college, university, and community, i.e. committee, administrative, and other assignments normally associated with a full-time Lecturer. We are seeking a dynamic practitioner who has the desire and skills necessary to help continue to grow the Educational Theatre Program through programming opportunities in service learning with the community including but not limited to schools and community based organizations as well ideas on recruitment to increase enrollment.
Master's in Educational Theatre or comparable degree required.
Candidates should have 3-5 year minimum theatre education experience, which can include as a full time theatre teacher, a teaching artist, working in higher education or any combination of the above. Additional desired qualifications include demonstrated teaching effectiveness and experience in higher education and classroom teaching in an urban setting and an understanding of quality teacher training preparation for pre service teachers and teaching artists are also required.
The ideal candidate will be familiar with the NYC DOE and current teacher certification exams. The ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution as well as represent the program with leadership and grace is a plus.
